General taxi fares in Boston

Taxis in Boston tend to be rather expensive, compared to other U.S. cities. Prices are regulated, and the starting fare is $2.25; the taximeter then adds $2.40 per mile. Please note that it's the passenger that pays for all tolls, and that there is an extra fee (currently $2.25) for rides from the airport. All Boston cabs will use the taximeters inside the city, as flat fares are illegal, except for longer rides. A tip of 10-15% of the fare is expected.
