Finding a taxi
There are about 2300 taxicabs in the City of Los Angeles, but they are not always very easy to get hold of. Except for in the very Downtown, taxis usually won't stop when hailed, and have to be picked up outside airports, major hotels or at Union Station. They can also be ordered in advance, by one of the taxi companies.
Be sure that the taxi you enter has a City of Los Angeles taxicab seal on the exterior door, which proves that it's authorized and under city inspection. There are nine authorized taxi operators.
General taxi fares
Taxi fares in LA are regulated, with the same prices for all operators. The taximeter starts at $2.65, and then you pay $2.45 per mile. Beware that distances in Los Angeles are long, and during heavy traffic, the fare can get hefty.
Airport taxi fares
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) - Central LA:
Flat fare of $45 (takes about 30 minutes in good traffic, more during rush hour)
